Tartan Range: Lochcarron Strome Rare

Enjoy the finest-quality kilt, with heavyweight tartan cloth and all the right details. The tartans available with this kilt come from Lochcarron's Rare tartans list. Lochcarron's 16 oz tartan cloth, their Strome line, has a richer look and a more textured feel than the lighter fabrics. It also offers the longevity, weight, and swing desired by pipe bands. The kiltmaker will sew all of the intricate pleats by hand and will secure the lining and front canvas into your kilt with a sewing machine. Hand-sewn pleats allow for the most tailored look. The tartan cloth is woven in Scotland at Lochcarron mills, and the kilts are custom made in Ontario, Canada. Because kilts are made to measure, they they generally take 6-10 weeks for delivery.

Tartan Choices for Locharron 16 oz Strome Range
Choose from Lochcarron's Rare tartans range. Click "More Info" to see sample images of some tartans. Please keep in mind that colors and details may appear different in the actual tartan.


Waist Measurement
Have someone else measure around your waist at a point 1" above your navel. The tape should be tight for this measurement because this fit will need to support the weight of the kilt. (Remember that kilts are worn higher than pants. Taking this measurement is extremely important.)


Seat Measurement
Have someone else measure around the widest part of your hips/seat. The tape should be a little loose for this measurement because this fit will need to accommodate bending and sitting. Once you have a number, ADD 1.5" and then select the closest measurement below. The extra 1.5" will allow the front apron of the kilt to lie flat and not bunch or pull.


Overall Kilt Length
Have someone else measure from 1" above your navel to the desired kilt length. Most people want the kilt to fall mid-knee. The distance can be measured in a standing position, or it can be taken from the top of the navel to 1" above the floor in a kneeling position.


Height Measurement
Please select the height closest to your head-to-heel measurement.


Weight (Optional)
Knowing the wearer's weight can help the kiltmaker get a better picture of how to shape the kilt.


Pleat Style
Choose a pleat type for your kilt. Pleat to sett means the tartan pattern is re-created in the pleats, while pleat to stripe means that a vertical stripe in the tartan repeats accross the back.


Matching Tartan Flashes Are Available
A pair of hose flash can be made to match your new kilt.
