 Our name is a tribute to Alexander Henderson, my great-grandfather, and the man who provided my living link to Scotland. His father emigrated from Aberdeenshire in the 1860s, and spent nearly forty years in Ontario before settling in the United States. It was a desire to honor and continue my family’s Scottish legacy that inspired me to begin piping. Later, genealogical interest prompted my first trip to Scotland, during which I gained a sense of physical connectedness to my ancestors. As I continued to pursue both piping and historical research, I developed a deep respect for traditional Scottish culture, and a wish to help promote and preserve it. This led to the concept of Henderson Imports in the mid 1990’s. Through much determination, commitment, and perseverance, we have moved from a modest beginning in our home, to a space which we quickly outgrew, and then into the modern 6,000 square foot storefront and warehouse space we currently occupy. After twelve years in business, our goal remains the same. To achieve this fundamental objective we have broadened our scope beyond the store to include such efforts as educational piping and drumming clinics, community outreach endeavors, and sponsoring several solo piping competitions.

The Store in Traverse City, Michigan
Whether you shop Henderson’s online or visit us at our Traverse City location, you are guaranteed a positive experience. Henderson’s employees are dedicated to providing friendly, professional service. With two pipers on staff full-time, we are always equipped to answer piping questions and concerns. Our office incorporates the latest technology for processing orders with maximum efficiency and accuracy. We confirm orders received, email shipping notifications, and provide comprehensive invoices and receipts. The website offers a secure and simple online shopping cart for your convenience. It provides useful information and images for many of the over 2000 items we carry, currently over 26,000 units in stock. Most orders, whether they come to us via the website, email, fax, mail, or a phone call, are shipped the day they are received.
The Warehouse Area
We use our 6000 square feet of warehouse space to its fullest capacity. With a couple of rare exceptions, we actively stock all of the products we offer. Items that might require special orders from other companies are part of the normal inventory at Henderson’s. This means that the vast majority of items are available for immediate shipment. Orders are packed with care to ensure that they arrive safely to you. United Parcel Service and the United States Postal Service are our carriers of choice. UPS provides tracking numbers for customer convenience, and Priority Mail has proved reliable in delivering packages quickly throughout the country and to overseas military personnel. The warehouse also includes our pipe assembly and reed testing areas.
Games & Festivals
We will be spending the summer of 2009 working on expanding our resources for pipers and drummers, so we won't be travelling to all the games we've regularly attended. For the last 10 years, we've been a fixture at many Highland festivals in the Midwest, including Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. We have also traveled as far south as Virginia, and as far west as Colorado. We will miss seeing all the regulars and meeting new people! Remember that we are happy to spend time talking on the phone or at the shop with you about any questions you might have.
